RRV – Are you eligible for the 5-year visa?

A Resident Return Visa (RRV) allows you to return to Australia after your permanent resident visa has expired. There is a residency requirement for the RRV. If you have lived in Australia for at least 2 years in the last 5 years as a permanent resident, you should be eligible for the 5-year RRV. If you have not lived for at least 2 years, then you can only apply for a maximum 12-month RRV, and you must demonstrate substantial ties to Australia. The most difficult cases are if you have been absent from Australia for at least 5 years, then not only do you need to demonstrate substantial ties to Australia, you must also have compelling reasons for your absence. There are a few situations that the Department may consider as compelling reasons, but generally, it could be difficult to argue.

At Tanson Migration, we will assess your RRV eligibility. Where compelling reasons are required, we will understand your circumstances, and where we can find compelling reasons, will make a convincing argument to the Department.
